The Story of ASTROPHE

Wander Within the Unconscious Mind

Astrophe is a virtual art exhibit for the students from the GARTS strand of the Assumption Antipolo to showcase their creativity and artistic skills. Each and every student will have the opportunity to display their unique talents, showing diversity in the different artworks. The purpose of this exhibit is for the students to be recognized for their art, and for them to be given more exposure for the raw talent that they have. All the funds that will be raised will also be for our beneficiary which is “ANAK-Tnk”.

“We dream of other worlds, and name them after our old discarded gods, and they seem almost as distant—too far to be seen with the naked eye. Only ever in an artist's renditions.”

– John Khoenig

Art allows our dreams and imagination to reach the physical world and ground itself with the reality we understand. The act of creating art deepens our roots connected to the soil of the earth and plants a seed of new ideas that has the potential to begin change.

Astrophe simply portrays the yearning to move beyond the superficiality established by society in the world we live in, which limits creativity to flourish, and share our appreciation of the Earth’s true beauty and divinity. Our virtual art exhibit will be the entrance into our minds filled with dreams and hopes that allow us to see the world not as it merely is, but what it can possibly be.

The first phase, namely  “Delicate”, contains artworks that portray elegance and exquisite quality of the natural environment made by the artists’ skills. This phase symbolize the lasting presence of things that are “real” to the human eye.

The second phase, namely “Essence” focuses more on the artists’ profound narratives that rely on worldly truths. These artworks portray themes from common human realities to statements on social issues and stigma.

The third phase, namely “Celestial”, contains artworks that escape reality to join the fictitious world. Artworks under the third phase focus more on the artists’ personal interpretations of the world which are shown through their own creative illustrations.

The fourth and last phase, namely, “Ethereal”, contain artworks that have an abstract approach or obscure visual aspects to them. This allows the viewers to enter new and original dimensions made by the artists  based on the reality known to us.

The four stages resemble a cycle and will enable the audience to create an insightful, enriching, and blissful experience from viewing the artworks and learning about the stories behind each work created.

The art exhibit presents 4 phases representing the 4 stages of the sleeping cycle, wherein each artwork is placed under 1 phase relative to their similar theme/s and visual aspects.

Beneficiary

“ANAK-Tnk” is an organization based in the Philippines and was founded in 1998. They aim to help and provide for children who live in the slums of Manila, Philippines and they fight for the basic rights and needs of children, namely, education, nutrition, health, and protection.

In the Philippines, one in ten children is out of school, but “ANAK-Tnk” aims to support each child throughout their educational endeavours. Additionally, given that many children do not eat enough food in a day, providing balanced meals and educating communities on proper nutrition is a priority of the organization. Protecting the health of children and providing them with medical assistance is also a priority, as 40% of the urban population in the Philippines live in extremely unsanitary conditions. This makes the people living in these areas more susceptible to different illnesses. Lastly, protecting children from drugs, violence, rape, and prostitution is also an objective of the orginization, and this is done through the provision of psychological and legal support.
